Textiles are a lifesaver for those who like to experiment with the interior. Judge for yourself – it’s budget-friendly, it’s effective. But in order for these three moments to work, it is necessary to competently make friends with the new textile with the usual interior. And here a completely logical question arises – how to do it, if you do not have a professional education and experience in frequent interior alterations? How to choose the perfect curtains and what should be combined with textiles for the home?
Do you have to choose everything to match each other or can you choose different colors and achieve harmony? We have compiled a list of the 6 most important, in our opinion, rules for a smart combination of textiles in the interior. What should be combined, and what is not necessary – read below.
The main color in the interior
Harmonious and smooth monochrome in the interior today finds a second life thanks to the trend for minimalism. The desire for simplicity as the basis of minimalism can be traced precisely in the interiors decorated in different variations of the same main color. And this technique will allow you to refresh the space and give it notes of nobility.
How to choose textiles for such a room? At first glance, it may seem that it is enough to buy everything in one color – fashionable interior design is ready, which can be easier. But then there is an option to make the room boring and get rid of additional faces in the monochrome interior – its highlights. In such rooms, the principle works: you cannot diversify the color range, dilute the textures. Include silk, velvet and linen in the textile picture of the interior – for example, the rough texture of the upholstery of the sofa in tandem with smooth shiny curtains – and you will get a multifaceted minimalist design.
Natural motifs in a beige-brown color scheme
Ideas for interior design with an animalistic print – snake, leopard or zebra – have not lost their relevance for several seasons now. And all this time the question – what to combine it with – also remains at the forefront of the corner. These are very active ornaments, with which it is very easy to overdo it and turn the interior into a bad taste a la “hunter’s hut” in the worst sense of the word.
There is a solution – to combine active with neutral. To use animal prints in the interior without problems, you need to create a beige or sand background. You can include brown as a more active color to create a multifaceted color picture. If the walls and floor in your interior are made in neutral shades, there are no active patterns on them – you can safely buy textiles imitating snake skin, zebra or tiger fur. Roller blinds with a natural pattern or bamboo curtains will also look great.
Contrast color textile
Once upon a time, dinosaurs lived on our planet, people hunted mammoths, and curtains were chosen strictly in the color of the walls. And speaking seriously, this indisputable truth of its time – curtains in the color of wallpaper – is not as relevant today as before. Therefore, you can safely experiment with colors and choose window – and not only – textiles, based on your own feeling or based on the general mood and style of the room.
You can make a move and create a beautiful interior design if you choose a textile of a bright contrasting shade, thus making it the main character in the room. This technique will work if you choose a palette that is pleasing to the eye – because now most of the attention will be focused on this color.
Prints in the style of the room
The main rule for all fans of prints – especially bright and contrasting ones – is that there is no pattern that lives in the interior with its own life. Each print or pattern should fit the general style of the room, properly selected curtains do not dissonance and do not argue with other design elements.
For example, a botanical print is ideal for eco-style and Provence, as well as a room decorated in a natural palette. And, let’s say, today’s popular geometry goes well with the style of loft, hi-tech and minimalism. If you design an ethnic interior, for example, Japanese, then choose prints that are as close as possible to the original ones used in this country.
Textiles according to the season
Experts advise to splurge and buy several sets of textiles for the season.
For example, for the winter, a knitted blanket, several fur pillows and beautiful curtains in the living room, dense, soft shades and classic length. For summer, something bright, say an orange plaid, a bunch of colorful pillows and roman shades with a botanical print.
Updating the interior in this way is inexpensive, quick and very effective.
A drop of bright colors
Are you one of those who constantly turn to the beige-sand range in the interior? It’s time to change something! For example, one’s attitude to color. So, what color to choose curtains and how to combine them with other textiles of rich shades? You don’t need to be afraid of color, use it and combine it in your interior.
Not sure of your design sense – use a proven scheme. Leave the general palette of the interior neutral and focus on those items that can be easily replaced in case of failure – sofa cushions, a plaid, a small rug or a soft ottoman. Look at palettes and examples of color combinations on the Internet – experiment, and everything will work out!
