One of the solutions for finishing the ceiling in the kitchen is a slatted ceiling structure. It has a lot of advantages, but before proceeding to them, it should be noted that such a ceiling has several varieties according to the type of construction and material, as well as the design of the rails. Not all of them will be appropriate in the kitchen. Let’s carefully analyze each option so that the slatted ceiling in the kitchen is reliable and appropriate.

The presence of a stove, dishwasher, and sometimes a washing machine, a sink, and electric kitchen appliances distinguishes the kitchen from other rooms. Cooking, washing, washing dishes – all this creates conditions with high humidity, temperature differences, the risk of fire and increased pollution as a result of cooking (drops of fat, soot, etc.). The entire decoration of the kitchen is carefully thought out, including the ceiling, which must meet the requirements of the “kitchen environment” and be able to maintain a presentable appearance for a long time.

Construction

To begin with, let’s decide on the structure of the slatted ceiling. It can be open or closed. And now let’s turn to the conditions of the kitchen.

The open ceiling immediately falls away, as it will get dirty, and washing the cracks and the inside of the rails will be not only difficult, but impossible. A closed type is partially suitable, although the rails are mounted close together, but there is still a gap at the junction, although not a large one. It will be clogged with the same soot, and the top will be covered with even more dust.

However, there is a solution – installation of an open ceiling with inter-slat inserts. This will not only smooth out the joint as much as possible, but also give a flight of designer imagination. Rails and layouts can have different colors and textures.

Another option is a seamless ceiling structure. Due to the special method of mounting the rails, the monolithic surface is ensured. The problem of pollution disappears by itself.

Rails can have a German or Italian design. The Italian design looks good in the interior of any room, but from a practical point of view, it is not entirely appropriate in the kitchen, since when the rounded rails are joined, gaps are formed in which dirt can collect. If you choose a German design, a fairly tight connection of the rails is ensured, but this design has a business character and is not suitable for every kitchen. For example, if you decorate the kitchen in the style of Provence, then the clumsy German design of the slatted ceiling will stand out from the overall picture.

For the same reason of contamination of the ceiling during cooking, you should not choose rails with perforation. They will certainly provide additional ventilation, but it is better to get a good hood.

Material

The strongest material is steel. Steel slatted ceilings tolerate temperature changes well and are cheaper than aluminum options. However, they rust under the influence of high humidity, and it is always high in the kitchen, not only are the dishes washed here, but also steam is released during cooking. You can buy steel rails with special moisture protection, but is the skin worth the trouble?

Plastic slatted ceilings are the most affordable, but it is not recommended to install them in the kitchen for two reasons. Firstly, they support burning, secondly, they fade under the influence of high temperatures. As a result, after some time, a specific yellowish spot will appear in the place above the plate on the ceiling.

The ideal solution is aluminum slatted ceilings. Do not burn, do not support burning. A strong material comparable to steel, but much lighter. It tolerates a humid environment well and does not react to temperature changes. They are easy to install and wash.

Why should you choose a slatted ceiling for the kitchen?

Choosing an aluminum suspended rail ceiling, you get a lot of advantages compared to any other options. Among them, the following points can be highlighted:

  • Simple and quick installation. You can install it yourself without special skills. The work is carried out almost without construction waste, which is important if the ceiling is installed in the kitchen with already installed furniture and appliances.
  • Fire Security.
  • A light suspended ceiling that perfectly hides communications, wires and imperfections of the rough surface.
  • The possibility of installing any type of lamps, including spotlights.
  • Rails can take any shape, including being curved at any angle. Thanks to this, you can form a multi-level ceiling of any shape, steps, waves, etc.
  • A variety of colors and design of the surface of the rails. You can create a glossy, mirror or matte ceiling of any color and combination of shades.
  • Environmentally friendly material. Does not accumulate dust, fungus or mold does not form on it.
  • Easy to care for. Grease deposits from the ceiling can be easily washed off with a cloth dipped in dishwashing liquid.

Installing a slatted ceiling has undeniable advantages. In addition, they have an interesting design, incomparable to anything else. The rail kitchen will please the eye and become a real decoration of the home.
